Founded in 1670, and with a rich history of scientific research, conservation and education, the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh is one of the world's leading botanical institutions.
As part of Scotland's Year of Stories 2022, RBGE's 'Of Scotland's Soils and Soul' presented 100 stories born of nature and ‘grown’ in Scotland, alongside the plants that inspired them. From St Columba to the Gruffalo, 1,500 years of tradition were celebrated and presented at the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh and its Regional Gardens at Benmore, Logan and Dawyck.
In each of the four gardens, 3D, solar-powered 'Story Stations' were built which allowed visitors to hear and read the poetry and prose. Amongst the well-kent voices that recorded stories, poems, and songs for the outdoor exhibition were Emma Thompson and Tilda Swinton.
Working in partnership with RBGE's Interpretation and Design Lead, I assisted in bringing this creative vision to life. I digitally illustrated the suite of brand assets and artworked the visual identity for this exhibition. Further to this, I designed both the printed and digital marketing materials to promote the event. And finally, artworked the 3D installations that would feature within the grounds of all four of the regional venues.
